Independent Women in Food
Slightly different to my usual foodie posts and yummy recipes but this is a subject really close to my heart as a woman who spent much of her life working in a big industry and crying out for the independence and freedom that comes with self-employment and self-sufficiency. I am a proud mother to my three children and a devoted wife to my husband, and freelance or self-employment allows me to contribute to the family finances, be a good role model to my children and stop myself from going crazy!
Being an at-home mother is more than just a full-time job, as children demand our attention 24 hours a day. However, in order to provide their little ones with the best opportunities in work, more mums are now becoming self-employed or turning to freelance work in order to stay at home whilst making money for the family.
Many are becoming freelance writers or telecommunication assistants, whilst others are setting up their own businesses that they can perform within the home. Self-employment and freelancing, therefore, provides financial help for debt and essentials, whilst ensuring their child is well cared for.
There are so many freelance jobs out there to suit a person’s skills and needs, which can even work around their child’s schedule. So, if you want to work but don’t want to leave your child, they are definitely options worthy of consideration. Just make a dedicated little office space in your home, by setting up a laptop with an internet connection, and a set of tables and chairs (possibly from a site similar to office monster) and you are ready to start your journey into freelancing.
With that said, being a mother is the hardest job I have ever had, but is still the most rewarding, I thrive on making good food and providing a wonderful home life for my entire family. To always be the best hostess and to make sure that good nutritious meals are served every evening.
I see so many strong women quitting their job and making a living off their cooking skills and blogs and books and I think that is fantastic, all it takes is one little break and they can make it doing something that they love. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll release a cookery book of all these recipes I make!
For now, I only hope that I continue to keep my family healthy with delicious, nutritious meals, and creating new, organic recipes and dishes that continue to surprise and delight everyone that eats them. I’ll also be looking more into the baking side of the kitchen, with experiments in bread and pastries so keep an eye out!
